Repurpose: Recycled Magazine Tiara

Whether you have stacks of cooking or home décor magazines, clothing catalogs or gossip weeklies, recycling pages from those periodicals into something beautiful is not only eco-friendly but very craft-craving satisfying.

NEED

  • Magazines
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Pencil
  •  


HOW


  • Rip out a stack of pages from a magazine
  • Accordion-fold the paper long-length-wise into four sections and unfold
  • Each crease line will be the altitude of 3 isosceles triangles, cut out the triangles
  • Roll a paper triangle around the shaft of a pencil, starting from the base and ending with the tip, glue down the tip of the triangle to the rolled paper underneathRepeat these steps until you have approximately, 15 rolls
  • Accordion-fold the paper short-length-wise into four sections and unfold
  • Each crease line will be the altitude of 3 isosceles triangles, cut out the triangles
  • Roll a paper triangle around the shaft of a pencil, starting from the base and ending with the tip, glue down the tip of the triangle to the rolled paper underneath
  • Repeat these steps until you have approximately, 15 rolls
  • Using the cover of the magazine (if it is a heavier cardstock) or some thin cardboard, cut out a slightly arching band
  • Cut the rolls to different lengths to mimic the varied but symmetrical shape of a crown or tiara
  • Fan out the rolls onto the band and glue down
  • If you desire, glue down a second set of rolls onto the first set to give the crown more dimension
  • Allow crown to dry
  • Once the crown is dry, gently bend the crown into a curve
  • Cut out a second band from a magazine cover/cardboard and staple it at both ends to the crown-band
