In Marin County, we are blessed to have a famer’s market on almost every day of the week.
My favorite one is the Marin Civic Center Farmer’s Market on Thursdays.
There is ample parking and fewer crowds than the Sunday market at the same location.
There is a jumpy for the little ones and the mobile library. The Taco Guys food truck and the Famer’s Wife sandwich stand are both tasty. The kettle corn stand and waffle truck are also a hit with the kids.
But for me and most visitors, the draw of the market is the produce, breads and prepared foods. Beautiful heads of lettuce, raisins, apples, strawberries, almonds, pomegranates, fingerling and purple potatoes, sourdough English muffins, buttery croissants and so forth.
The experience of exploring the market as it changes through the seasons and perusing the lush and colorful stands is relaxing. The beauty of what you bring home is inspiring. And the freshness of the food, often harvested that very morning is especially nourishing.
If you live in the area, make a point to visit. If you live farther afield, find a farmer’s market in your area through Local Harvest.
