Wooden building blocks are a wonderful heirloom gift to give a child and his family. Building blocks exercise fine motor skills and encourage imaginative play. Whether natural or colored, block sets come in a wide range of price points.
Traditional block sets tend to include geometric shapes, Waldorf-inspired sets include more organic curved pieces. Ideally, a child will have both to mix and match in his imaginative play.
For the youngest child around 1 years old, a set of twenty or so blocks will be sufficient. You can buy a small set or simply portion out blocks from a larger set. If your child is older I suggest investing in at least 100 blocks or more.
