Happy Clay Man

Who is this jolly fellow hanging out on my kitchen windowsill? Just chillin’ next to a jar of scallions, basking in the warm mid-morning sunshine? Making me smile every single time I see him? Why does his crooked form, knowing grin and lumpy appearance warm my heart so?

  • Because my son fashioned him out of clay and painted him his favorite color.
  • Because every time I see this little figure it makes me think of my son and daughters.
  • Because he reminds me that creativity, beauty and love often come in irregularly shaped packages.
  • Because he like my children’s childhoods are fleeting and fragile, full of movement and whimsy.
  • Because he is a work of art which should be appreciated.

Give your child a hunk of clay and see joy come to life.
